Cornel Robinson | Chef | Owner

From a curious boy in Jamaica's kitchens to a celebrated chef and community leader in New York
Chef Cornel's culinary journey began in the heart of a warm, bustling kitchen in Jamaica. As a young boy, he clung to his mother's apron strings, wide-eyed and curious, watching her weave magic through pots and pans. The sizzle of hot oil may have startled him at first, but by the age of six, he was already frying his first egg. By nine, he proudly prepared an entire meal for his family.
His first role model was his mother, Mrs. Daisy Green—a professional cook and senior kitchen staff member at Cornel's community school. Through her, he developed a deep-rooted respect for food, family, and the power of hard work.
After high school, Cornel set his sights on joining the Jamaican Military. While preparing for that path, he worked as a security officer at the Wyndham Hotel in Kingston. Life was evolving quickly—he became a proud father to his first daughter, Sasharee, in 1990, and welcomed his second daughter, Rory, in 1995.
In 1996, Cornel officially enlisted in the Jamaican Military, where he served with honor for ten unforgettable years. That same year, he met the love of his life, Fiona. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with three children: Cornel-Stjohn, Arryana, and Arriel.
In 2006, Chef Cornel made a life-changing move to the United States to reunite with his loved ones. A year later, he took a position as a dietary clerk at Centerlight Health Systems—a role that rekindled his love for food. With encouragement from his mentor, Cook Hawkins, he enrolled at Star Career Academy in New York City. He completed the Fine Dining program in 2012, topping it off with an internship at Sony Music Entertainment.
Driven to learn more, Cornel also pursued a course in restaurant management. That leap of faith led to the launch of Cornel's Catering Co.
That dream took form in 2017 with the launch of Cornel's Catering Co. His first major event? Catering for 320 guests at First Church United Brethren in Christ—a bold undertaking that was a resounding success. From that moment on, the business grew, fueled by Cornel's philosophy that healthy dishes inspire healthy living.
Today, Chef Cornel is more than a culinary artist—he's a community leader, a mentor, and a giver. Through Cornel's Scholarship Fund in Jamaica, his catering company proudly supports high school students in the Golden Spring area of St. Andrew. The fund provides essential school supplies and encouragement for aspiring young chefs to follow their passion — just as he did.
From a small boy watching his mother cook in a Jamaican kitchen to a celebrated chef in New York, Chef Cornel's journey is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and purpose.
